'The shape and the texture of the Doritos chips are used as the base of this packaging concept. What's good about the form of the packaging is its structure which can keep the chips closed after opening. Currently I'm developing illustrations which can replace the textured solid colors. I also invite every designer interested in collaboration to create artworks of his own.'

12 frequent logo design mistakes – AVOID!!!

Today, I start my post by quoting a logo designing blunder. A few years back, a Las Vegas company launched an energy drink called Cocaine. Not long after its launch, the FDA pulled the drink from the market. Reason??? The word used as its logo was that of a notorious drug itself. The font in its logo design resembled a white powder (cocaine). Its marketing language was rife with drug references. Short and sweet, while designing a logo we need to apply many things and avoid number of things.

Is your logo design capable of making your customers SMILE
Simple
Memorable
Inviting
Limited in references
Exciting

These are the keys of a designing a unique logo but do you know what happens when you make mistakes while making a logo design. For this reason you need to know beforehand all the common blunders that you might commit in logo designing. After all, prevention is better than cure, isn’t it???

For your due awareness, I have enlisted some frequent blunders that most people make while creating a logo design:

1. Avoid amateurs; your logo design demands professionalism from you.

2. Don’t just conjure up meaningless logos…design your logo with a purpose! You might think the arrow does nothing here. But it says that amazon.com has everything from a to z

3. Don’t be PC reliant…sketch your idea on a paper

4. Never clog the beauty of logo with complexity, just KISS (Keep it Simple Straight)

5. Make your logo design compatible for all mediums. The FedEx logo is easily visible on all formats of media.

6. Avoid adding unnecessary inclusions (co, Ltd, Inc) Notice what vague inclusions have been made under the “Families” logo!

7. Say No to Plagiarism; always remember the PEPSI-COKE Case

8. Dreadful color combination: Although the logo is one of the creations of “Paul Rand” but the uneasy color selection is making it very awkward

9. Avoid certain typography issues (improper spacing, predictable, crazy and thin fonts). Geez, what’s this supposed to mean???

10. Never initiate in color mode; start logo design in black and white.

11. Haste makes waste….give your logo design attention it deserves!

12. Don’t stick to logo design trends ….create something original.

Have you ever encountered a logo design mistake other than the ones I mentioned?? Also analyze your logo design closely and tell if you have made any of these mistakes.

'Graphic designer Jordan Jelev of Factor R Studio, known as ‘The Labelmaker’, has redesigned the label for Bulgarian wine +359. The range, by Villa Lyubimets winery, is named after the country’s international phone code and the font is based on the one used by Bulgarian Post in the 1960s, giving the wine strong national appeal.

‘I wanted everyone not only to see this label as an image, but to feel it and sense it with their fingers ' that’s why I used puff-up transparent varnish to make the biggest possible relief structure on the logo,’ Jelev said.

A selective transparent UV matt varnish is applied on the pattern of circles around the logo against glossy background and a transparent puff-up varnish on the +359 logo to create the appearance of wave lines. The label is bordered with a glossy hot foil stamp, and there are some tiny hot foil dots around the logo as well.

The label was screen-printed by Rotoprint in Bulgaria on Fasson MC Plus.'

Bien dicen que una imagen dice más que mil palabras, y en esta caso se aplica esta regla.

Acabo de encontrar esta ejecución que ocupa el medio (puertas eléctricas transparentes) de excelente forma, porque tiene mucha conexión con la marca, en este caso los cafés Dunkin´ Donuts .

La idea principal es despierta, clásico insight, al igual que muchos cafés (por ejemplo el de Nescafé es: México despierta con….) pero a lo que voy es que el mensaje se hace eficiente por usar el medio de forma innovadora.

Esta ejecución no es real, es el book de unos estudiantes de la Escuela de Artes Visuales con sede en Nueva York, lo impactante de todo esto, es que la generación se ha colgado unos cuantos premios en el ambito de la publicidad. Como dato extra, el profesor que imparte las clases es Frank Anselmo, un galardonado ex director creativo de BBDO y director creativo de la agencia Knarf

Tetralogy fue una instalación de madera para la galería OhNoDoom! de Chicago y fue realizada por artistas locales: Emily Cunningham, Joey Depakakibo, Scott Shellhamer y Francis Kmiecik.

La instalación estuvo presente desde el 25 de julio del 2009 y medía 6 metros, las personas que estuvieron presentes han mencionado que era asombrosa y que jamás habían visto algo tan impresionante como esa instalación chicana, lamentablemente la galería no posee un basto archivo del evento, pero en el Flickr de Francis Kmiecik se encuentra un álbum que es el que nos muestra a detalle la famosa Tetralogy en 76 fotografías.

Francamente lo que han hecho estos cuatro artistas es de admirarse, sólo vean las fotografías de cómo la hicieron y si se ve que fue bastante difícil.

Quick Handy Photoshop Shortcuts: "

I am sure everyone that reads Inspiredology probably has Photoshop installed and probably uses it on a daily basis. Keyboard shortcuts can push your productivity through the roof. Here we provide some of our favorite shortcuts and tricks that we use on a regular basis.

Note: this article is written in Mac Photoshop format. If you are using PC, Cmd = Ctrl and Opt = Alt.

Workspace

Shift through different views – F

Clear all menu’s for full workspace view – Tab

Deselect – Ctrl+D

Make your project fit the screen vertically – Cmd + 0

Foreground & Background Colour Palette

Background – Cmd+Delete

Foreground – Opt+Delete

Toggle through colours – X

Clear Colour Selections back to Default- D

Quickly toggle between blending modes

Windows users can simply toggle using the cursor keys, Mac users however can use the Shift key along with the plus and minus keys while the direct selection tool is active. Using this command while another tool is selected will change the blending mode option for that specific tool.

Load the selection of a layer

Press Cmd while clicking the layer thumbnail to load a selection of the layer contents.

Copy multiple layers

Draw a selection, then use the shortcut Shift+CMD+C to Copy Merged. This takes every layer into the clipping, rather than just the current layer selection.

Duplicate layers within the layers palette

Duplicate the active layer – Cmd+J or Hold down Opt + drag within the Layers palette.

Nudge 10px at a time

The cursor keys will nudge an object by 1px by default. Hold Shift while nudging to increase this to 10px. Especially handy when designing web layouts for consistent spacing.

Drag Selection

With your Marquee tool, create your selection, DO NOT release your mouse, now hold down Spacebar to move your undefined selection.

Navigate in your document

We all now it’s easy to scroll vertically, but what about when you have a horizontal proportioned project, here’s a quick tip… just hold down the Cmd key, and scroll up or down.

Toggle through tool lists

Trying to get to a tool within a list (these are labeled by a small bottom left arrow), just hold down shift then press the appropriate tool command to toggle through the different tools. For example the Brush List – shift + B

Scale proportionally from center

You can scale proportionally by just holding down shift when you drag your transform tool, but if you hold down Opt + Shift, you can scale from the center.

Sanna Annukka recently launched a new portfolio and online store. I love these solid brown oak Soul Birds which are now available for pre-orders in her shop. I’ll have to add these to my Christmas list!

On her website, Sanna shares this bit about the the Soul Bird which stems from Finnish mythology. “In Karelia there was an ancient belief in the Sielulintu or Soul bird. The Sielulintu was thought to deliver the soul to newborn babies and also to transport the soul to the afterlife at the moment of death. It was believed the Sielulintu protected a persons soul at it’s most vulnerable; when dreaming, and it was tradition to keep a carved wooden bird by the bedside to keep the soul safe during sleep.”

IKEA es una marca de la que te puedes esperar cualquier cosa ya que nos tiene acostumbrados a la sorpresa. En esta ocasión se han lanzado en Alemania a una campaña de publicidad muy particular denominada 'IKEA-Cine-Catálogo' en la que en lugar de emitir los típicos comerciales antes del comienzo de la película, han preferido seleccionar escenas de películas conocidas en las que aparecen los muebles de la firma sueca junto a actores como Brad Pitt o George Clooney. En estas escenas aprovechan la integración para superponer una luz blanca que muestra los nombres y precios de los muebles que aparecen, un ejemplo que refuerza el vínculo que existe entre los muebles de IKEA y valores de la moda, el diseño, el 'glamour',...

La acción se desarrolló en 92 cines llegando a impactar a cerca de 13.000 espectadores. Las expectativas fueron superadas con éxito ya que de los 1.000 catálogos que esperaban repartir llegaron a 5.000!!!

Up to our noses: "Great art installation piece by Ivan Puig from Guadalajara. The origin of this plays on the idea of related proportions of events and their relativity. I've seen similar effects done before, but for some reason I was drawn by this one. Perhaps it's because its a VW being displayed here, an object of a much larger scale from others I've seen in the past. Regardless, this is beautiful, and quiet inspiring.

I was having trouble sleeping last night so I decided to pop online for a while to hunt down some visual gems. I happened upon the website of Kristof Saelen entitled VIPs * Very Important Pixels. I’ve seen similar pixel drawings of celebrities and things before, but was struck by the likenesses Kristof can achieve with little squares. Just look at that Kubrick, it’s bang on.

Being a fan of all things 8-bit (or 16-bit), these little guys provided a hilarious moment to my late-night surfing. Kristof is also hosting a contest on his Twitter to win a pixel drawing of yourself. You can BET I’m entering :)
